My last naval operation, as a squad leader in Task Group 24, was to provide ASW support when the Soviet Navy decided to send ballistic submarines
to the southern US coast. I was only 22 years old and had no idea this would be the best week of my life.
US NAVY LETTER OF ACHIEVEMENT

My first year at NAVFAC Bermuda was to partake in ASW training which included oral examinations. I must have impressed someone.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
US Environmental Protection Agency
As a student at URI, I worked for the EPA Narragansett Bay facility and was assigned a task - take Potomac River data and determine if waste water
restrictions were influencing nitrogen and phosphorous compounds. I finished the model in under a month, then called my uncle Pat, Director of
Physical Oceanography at NOAA. He sent me charts of the river which I digitized and overlayed the data in 3D. The only reason I was not hired post graduation is because I stupidly
insulted the PhD scientists who were studying cow farts (I was lectured on methane scrubbers and barn explosions).
MANAGEMENT TRAINING AWARD
Thermo-Fisher Scientific
I was hired by Innaphase to lead the development of Enterprise Pharma-Kinetics (EP), an enterprise level PK/PD Bio-Analysis application. Shortly after, the company was purchased by
Thermo Scientific after a bold move by the current CEO who hired Davey Jones to sing "Daydream Believer" at a pharma conference as she announced a new product using only artist renditions
(the product was not developed yet). Just prior to the purchase, she provided management training to most Engineers and promoted them to Managers.
This would turn out to affect many careers.
ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Global Knowledge Network
My team, including long term friend Anthony Terra, were one of the first teams to implement the "ASP" Model - Micrsosoft Active Server Pages (ASP)
an an Application Service Provider (ASP). We worked with IT to create load balanced servers to host the Knowledge Pathways application and wrote
C# DLLs to maintain state across the platform (don't judge - this was 1995).
